About Williamsburg

Jamestown, then Williamsburg, were two of the earliest successful colonization sites for the 17th century English pioneers. This was, to them, exploration of outer space. Because there was so little cargo space on those tine sailing ships they brought only the bare essentials plus their knowledge and experience of survival and a lot of tenacity. There had been earlier ventures - that didn't succeed (like Roanoke, for instance). These new colonists were determined that theirs would be successful.

Here you can get a glimpse of their earliest effort (Jamestown) and their progress as more ships came and brought more of the conveniences of civilization as they knew it. The multi-media presentation at the visitors center is an absolute 'must see'. Then, be prepared to walk and view the restored village of Williamsburg.

After you complete your history lesson you just might want to slip over to Busch Gardens. Here is another look at history. The Busch Gardens folks have prepared an excellent, as well as entertaining, portrayal of our animal kingdom. And, even if you have seen another Busch Garden somewhere else, they are all different.

There are a lot of hotels in the Williamsburg area. Central to the restored Village of Williamsburg (listed on our Historic Area page) ranging outward is a variety of styles (and luxuries) and price ranges. There are no 'bad' accommodations, here. Many of the properties have on-line brochures (the names of these are in bold, blue print - just click to view the brochure). Looking at these brochures can be a lot of fun. If you plan your trip well you will not only save a lot of money but you will enjoy it more.
